Principles and Concepts

Journal Papers

This is one of the early articles written by the inventors of the term “Web Engineering”. In this the authors describe the complexities associated with large scale Web Application development and explore need of an Engineering approach. Also they do a comparison between Web and Software Engineering. This is the first article of a series of articles.

This is the second article of a series of two articles, by the same authors. In this article they highlight the need of a process approach for Web Application development. Also list the “Ten key steps for successful development” that gives the essence of Web Engineering.

Conference Proceedings

This paper brings out two major research outcomes a) the maturity model in acquiring Web Engineering body of knowledge consisting of methodologies, technologies and standards and b) a process for web systems development that describes the Process Model and the Product Model in Web systems development.

Book Chapters

In authors' own words "...In this chapter, we articulate and raise awareness of the issues and considerations in large, complex Web application development, and introduce Web engineering as a way of managing complexity and diversity of large-scale Web development...."

Online Resources

Good compilation of early work done by different researchers in the field of Web Engineering. This comprise information on literature that attempt to identify the similarities and dissimilarities of Web Engineering from Software Engineering and trying to establish web system development as an “Engineering” discipline.
